Empire State of Mind
When the clock strikes twelve, we ride through the night,
Sketchy subways to trains below the overwhelming city of lights
Mama keeps telling me we’ll go some day,
Yet I know it's not gonna be that way
New York, the city where magic occurs,
Where tourists roam the streets all night and lonely stray cats purr
I fantasize of what adventures lie for me ahead,
As of now now, I dream alone, as I rest in my hospital bed.

I am a student at Fox Lane High School in Westchester NY. I adore gothic poetry therefore I created this dark toned/ upsetting poem about a sick teenager trapped in the hospital.
