An Ode to Time

When it feels like my world has frozen around me
At next dawn you are there again
Dragging the morning sun behind you
Pulling my aching body out of bed
No matter how tired I am
No matter how defeated
You force me to follow you
To put one foot in front of the other
You keep me going
During days when I feel like there’s nothing left to go for
But I can’t just bury myself in my blankets
And plead for you to stop the clocks
Or to paralyze the moon
Or to burn the rope that helps you drag the sun
I’ve accepted that you are always
That you are forever
So instead of begging for a break
I must learn to accept your flaw
That you don’t just stop
Not for me, not for anyone
I must understand that you’re the key to living
To consider if I’d rather be stuck in only one of your moments
Or endure a million of them
Both the good and the bad ones
Because now I know
When the loneliness of a bad day slaps me in the face
You give me a following day that will calm the pain
So keep doing your job
Keep aging my features
And strengthening my soul
After all, you know what they say
Time heals all wounds
