Junior Match
Back and forth buzzes the ball
a fuzzy green fly, swatted away
it flies angrily towards me
my strokes are
short
wooden
my feet are the hands of a conductor demanding vibrato
my eyes search for the right time to swing
my wrist locks
my racket jerks forward
the green fly arcs into the spiders lair
love-15
my eyes comb the crowd frantically
like bedhead before school
but there I see you
I breathe
I watch
I swing
15 all.

I wrote this for my mother's birthday a few year ago, and found it again today. It was an attempt to symbolize our relationship.
