Forgotten Identity

I've tried so hard to please you
But you hate me
I've taken years off my life for you
But you berate me
If you don't like me for me, I'll be you
So if you hate me, you'll be hating you
I'll lose myself to find you
I'll even stick with you like glue
___
Who am I?
What have I done?
I've lost my identity
I've ran from the Son
If having you means losing me, there is no gain
If you don't like me for me, I'll leave and spare you the pain
Turns out they don't hate me
I just cared about their opinions too much
I wish I could turn back time
Hopefully we can get back in touch
But the damage is done
I'll have to find myself again

This is about a personal experience of when I basically lost myself in trying to please a girl and a couple friends. Some of them left my life and I started spending more and more time alone. I became depressed. I thought everyone hated me, but really I was just overthinking and assuming what others were thinking about me. This is a reminder to stay true to who you are!
