Truth and Lies
They are not as horrid as you believe,
Lies, that is. They have security;
They can be taken back, they can be forgotten,
They can bring comfort, they can bring safety,
They can be altered to fit our desire,
They can make the impossible seem attainable.
Lies can be made with thought and care,
Lies can work to protect someone from harm,
That is because lies aren’t real, they add no weight to reality.
No gravity.
But the truth, ah… the truth, it is something to fear.
It is a beast immense as can be,
The gravity may take away the light you once used to see.
It will change every aspect of the world, alter your reality,
remaining forever, it can never be unsaid,
It can never be changed, it can never be forgotten,
It will surge through regardless of who it harms,
caring not for what stain it leaves behind...
The truth is real, and often times, it is the reality we don’t want to see.
The truth, that is, what we truly fear,
Because there nothing more terrifying,
Than that which we are powerless to change.
