Slowly sliding out of bed,
the young man prepares for a hectic day in Milwaukee.
Between the motorcycle ride and numerous encounters,
he hopes for a calm, calculated, and careful work day at the post office.
He leaves for another day on the job.

Hopping on his Harley,
he heads to the post office.
The motor’s roar booms like an explosion
through the sultry summer air.
He arrives for another day on the job.

Making his rounds through the crowded Milwaukee streets,
the cobblestone road rocks the motorcycle.
A stop at Granny’s house to chat,
he refreshes after the bumpy ride.
He is sore from another day on the job.

The mail delivered,
it’s time to head home.
A stop at the Haymarket Square Candy Shop
diminishes his hunger with Necco Wafers.
He completes another day on the job.

The sight of home comforts him,
for he can now relax, rejuvenate, and read.
Jumping back in his bed,
he dreams about the rough ride through Milwaukee.
He looks forward to the next day on the job.

This piece is based of an exhibit in my local museum. It depicts Milwaukee to look like it did in the early 1900's.
