A five minute walk

Now takes 30,

A crumb on the floor sparks curiosity
A sandwich confuses her
Her eyes squinting at it
As her brain
Tries
To
Connect
But
Fails.
She used to cook dinner for dozens of people
Now,
She cannot
Make
A PB&J
She used to care for her family
Now,
They care for her.
Just two years ago she was fine
Now she doesn’t remember my name.

She’s childlike in nature,
Staring with big eyes at
Every little thing.
Every little leaf
Every little shell
Every little bug
Every little thing
It’s all brand new
To her.
Just two years ago she was fine
Now she has forgotten her grandkids

She’s quiet now,
Unsure
Of
What
To
Say
For she has
Forgotten
The words
She has
Forgotten
That sunblock
Is needed
She has
Forgotten
That a chair
Is not steady
Without
All
Four feet
On the ground
Her face goes blank
When faced with old friends
Just two years ago she was fine
Now she doesn’t know who her husband is.

It’s terrible to watch
This disease pokes holes in her brain,
Taking
Away
Names
Faces
Taking
Away
Memories
?Taking
Away
Her
Words
Taking
Away
Her
Life.
