The line is a divine little symbol that we can use for pretty much anything we desire. Yes the line may be the most simple thing of all, but that my friend, is what makes it so complex. It can mean anything and everything all at once. We use it as a sign of taking something away or subtracting. Put it between two dots, and boom, you divide. We use it to explain geometry, to build things, we compose our alphabet and numbers using it, but the one, most important purpose that it serves is the separation of dates. Put it on a stone, in between two dates and it can contain the entire life of a person. Every breath they took, every kiss, every single time that that person smiled or cried is contained within that little line between the date they were born, and the date that they died. This thought consumes my mind as I stand there in the damp and gloomy graveyard on Mayberry street.
