People are
glaciers but
how can you
feel with your
frozen heart? Can
you take a break from
self-promoting
and save enough
breath to go
underwater and
see just how
far down the
rest of us
descend? You
only touch the
surface and
pull your hand
away because
it
feels
cold
but maybe
rest your hand
longer maybe
you should wait
JUST A FEW SECONDS
before you make
an opinion maybe
you should
test the waters
before refusing
to swim.
Or you don’t
have to—that’s
fine by me
but don’t spurt
carbon dioxide
in the air and
turn a blind
eye as I begin
to melt you
didn’t choose to
explore but I
am a glacier
we are all
glaciers
and my core
is not cold and
as I melt
and melt I
try to keep
a wobbly
smile for you
you can still
explore me just
don’t slip on
all of the
melting
ice.

This poem is about fake friends and some people who do not look deep enough to truly see you.
