War of Love
She was opulent, he was penniless
She had a plan that he could not afford
She longed for her family, who had been
Stripped away from her
He had no choice but to be taken away
The word of death upon her reached his ear like a gust of Hope
Realizing his endearment for her, he fought for her life knowing he could lose his
Making sure that she still had her life was his goal, and he was filled with compassion to succeed
Determination in his eyes, his back tensed, sweat pooling out of him, he walked up to the startling man
Begging for her life a lump formed in his throat and a heaviness he had never felt was in his stomach A tear tumbled
down his unwashed face as he closed his tired eyes
Not knowing what was going to happen next scared him the most
But knowing that she could live brought joy to him
Spiraling into a dark ditch he waited
To him, it felt like time had Came to a halt
and that he would be waiting forever
Abruptly it was like time had been going back no longer was her life being questioned
No longer were they being forced into extensive labor
No longer were they held captive by an evil no one has ever seen
Freed from the camps, all they could do was cry
confusion and determination in their eyes they set off
Because in America they could start their new lives and forget their old ones.

This is a true story regarding world war II. I wrote about this piece as a tribute to my great-grandfather who recently passed away. This is very important to me because it shows a peek inside his life as prisoners in a Nazi camp. Please enjoy this Poem and I hope it makes you think about what actually happened in the Holocaust.
