Every day I crack a smile
Hoping it will last forever
As solid ice still frozen
But that’s too challenging for me to put on
With my life sinking into sorrow just like a
Depiction of my miserable brown face

My name is Aaliyah and I am a high school student and a poet. I went to a writing camp and they helped us write a poem in a way of honoring Gwendolyn Brooks, by using a line from her poems and putting her words as the last word of my poem. Her poem reads: Smile forever frozen on a face
