Autumn
burnt oranges, rusty reds, golds, and brown
leaves are falling just like sprinkles
all over the ground.
piling up on one another
waiting for the little ones to
pile themselves right in.
pumpkins, sweaters, fires, and s’mores
are perfect for a day,
to amble you way through the patch
in your new wool top,
and finish out with a ride in hay.
turkeys, cornucopias, pilgrims, and family,
chatting with cousins and munching on food
is how this season finishes,
as if it is a story
with one great closure and ending.
carols, snow, hot cocoa, and shivers
is the next seasons package,
with singing songs day and night.
and waiting for those days
to sit with fuzzy socks,
by the warm cozy fire
waiting for the next autumn,
and the pumpkin picking, apple bobbing, and s'more making once again!
