The High Road MAG
He lies back, melting into the couch
Entering new, blissful serenity
Reaching out to touch the hand
Of God, warmth and love wraps his body.
In this moment, he is in Wonderland,
No bills, kids, work, wife, worry
Dealer’s dry, walking the streets
Out to get another hit.
Pleasure now shedding its skin; panic
and mania
Elusive sleep, four days and four nights fade
Sanity slips a little further with every
Impulsive dry heave, and every
Compulsive head tremor
Killing himself from the inside out
