What Happened?
They ask,
“What happened?
Y’all were a braid
Never meant to be undone”
We used to be
Two shoes of one pair.
We told fairytales
Of our friendship’s happy ending.
I bared my
Heart and Soul,
But she kept hers
Hidden and locked away.
I then walked away
from Everything
That was really
Never there
Our happy endings
Turned to nightmares
Of what used to be
And could have been
I now hear
Whispers and screams
From voices inside and out
“What Happened?”

I wrote this poem about a friendship that was really amazing but then became one-sided on my part. She did not consider me her best friend. I had to figure all of this out on my own and that was the hardest realization I ever had. I hope people learn what it means to be true friends. I also hope that people have the courage to leave a toxic or false relationship like I did. I hope people learn that they deserve a friend who will give their 100%.
