"Even the smallest person can change the course of the future." -J.R.R. Tolkien

I stroll along the shoreline
Wetting my toes in the waters
Protected by the bombed bodies of our fallen soldiers

I walk up stairs of buildings
That should be destroyed
Held up by bloodied arms of our fallen soldiers

I run in fields
With craters from bombs
Our fallen soldiers tried to diffuse

I grow crops
In my fields
Once watered by the blood of our soldiers

I hear the sound of fireworks
To celebrate my freedoms
Because our soldiers heard the sound of gunshots

I still survive in this world
Despite my differences
Thanks to men and women who never even knew me

My family may find refuge
In lands more beautiful than ever
That where once littered with bodies of our soldiers

I wear a simple chain around my neck
With but a simple charm
Because men and women chose to wear tags

I smile at our flying flag
And see it flying freely
Because their flags are now folded.

In memory of all the soldiers that fought to protect what we have today.
