I know how
the shapeshifter
feels.

To give up
yourself,
so other
people
accept you.

Yet there is
no way
you can live
as a Fake.

There are
school children
who always
throw insults.

They laugh
at the
boy whose
different.

But still,
the memory
of long ago love
propels him.

And as I sit here
in the woods,
listening to birds
sing their songs of life

I wish I had known
how this story
was going to end,
before it began.

The author's comments:

I wrote this poem to express the lonliness that plagues my daily life. This poem also expresses the longing i have to either change who i am or gain self acceptance so i dont have to act as someone else anymore.
