the rusty red walls
looked upon the loving husband
and the woman who was not his wife
the rusty red walls
looked upon the family dinner
and the mothers’ seat that was empty
the rusty red walls
looked upon the child
reading his own bedtime story
the rusty red walls
looked upon the cat
who was now showing his bones
the rusty red walls
looked upon the overfilled
medicine cabinet
the rusty red walls
looked upon the bedroom
barren of the vanilla scent
