Galloping In The Sky
I sat there at the dinner table with a worried expression painting my face
Averting my eyes from parents
I take a deep breath
My voice became thick with tears
My hands shook
I prepared myself for the hurricane of bad news
That would soon come hurdling down on me
“I am so sorry Jordan”
“But Cody was put down last night”
My stomach churned and twisted
My heart felt as though it was demolished from inside
My grandmother's horse
My best friend
My first pet
The animal that I grew up with
The horse that I woke up early to brush
Feed
And ride
Was gone
My world spun
Memories poured back into my mind
Happy memories and images
Once bright and in color
Turned grey
Tears flooded my eyes
There was nothing I could do
Cody was gone
I would never get him back
He is now
Galloping in the sky

I was inspired by my other classmates to write this poem. One day I was sitting in class and listening to my peers ideas about what they would write about for their poems. One of my close friends was telling me about the passing of her dog, her story sparked this idea in me. The event that I am writitng about happend a bit ago, and I had not really thought about it much scence then. However, I can tell you that it felt good to remember my lost pet. Although it was not a happy memory, it was nice to revisit and remember.
