Glass wall of protection
Silencing the raindrops as they try to lure me in
with their beautiful showers
Knowing I'll end up cold, wet, and alone.

Hiding me from the hailstorm
that will tear my heart apart.
Dodging the icy balls of deceit, hurt, and pain.
Making them vanish from my mind.

Wiping away winters white blanket
that blinds me from the truth.
Covering my eyes and whispering lies
till I'm frozen and confused.

Arriving to my destination, I park my only refuge
In hesitation I step outside
Unprotected but intrigued
I finally feel your embrace

Pain, hurt, and deceit rush towards me
But by my side you stand.
Though taking it in nearly killed us,
Together we stayed alive.

The author's comments:

This piece was inspired by the rain. Being that I live in Florida the rain is a common thing to us. One day I was watching as the windsheild wipers seemed to silence the raindrops. I noticed that it protected us from getting wet or harmed. This reminded me of love. It seems that throughout your life people are always trying to protect you from loving the wrong person. But eventually you are going to have to take a chance and deal with whatever pain may come your way. I hope when people read this it will inspire them to really take a chance and experience what life may throw at them.
