Take pride in your pain. You're stronger than those who have none.

It’s funny how they say words are like knives when really, they’re not.
They are two completely different things.
But what’s the main difference?
Words hurt MORE than knives.
I’d rather have someone hurt me by cutting me,
than yell hurtful comments towards me.

Cuts can go away.
They’ll heal up and they won’t hurt anymore.
Yeah, there will be a scar or two left behind,
but it doesn’t hurt as bad.
Stab wounds?
They heal too.
The blood will stop flowing out,
The pain numbs itself,
And the knife can be washed clean.

But words?

Words are everything.
Words have meaning.
They can enter your head,
But they never leave.
They keep you up all night,
And can stop you from being yourself.
They breach the skin,
Rip your heart in two,
And leave permanent scars that will never heal.
Permanent scars that will always reopen,
And memories that will never escape.

So do you get it now?
How words are not knives,
But WORSE than knives?
Knives can kill your body,
But words can kill you,
And you’ll never die.

I wrote this to show others that words hurt. They can hurt you emotionally, while physical abuse can only scar your skin.

Be happy, not because everything you see is good, but because you can see the good in everything.

WOW! This is fantastic. I loved the idea, and the word choice. This is quite a penetrating poem. Maybe not everyone thinks about this, but it's true. Words DO affect us in ways that physical pain cannot. I loved it! Great job!
