Nail Polish

I put my love into my nails
Because I thought you’d never hold my hand.
But one day came
When love radiated through our palms
And you felt the smoothness of fresh polish.

As the edges chipped and peeled

I kept running my own hands against themselves

While you ran away
hoping I would just forget.
