A hole;
A crevice. A gap. An opening.
Can only be filled in every way, but none.

John inhales carbon monoxide, exhales fumes
Sets ablaze his lungs,
Lies and excuses coughed up in a plume

Emma traces intricate patterns of biology
With steel –
Delights in each vermilion bead, as wee as can be

Patrick consumes daily,
Powders, shakes, bars, and beans
He lifts and he runs to his ultimate acme

Lisa, the valedictorian –
Perfect as can be
But to whom? And why? Where does she put her glory in?

And Manny kisses boys
Yet hides in closets from Genesis to Revelation
No matter what, Mommy had said not to make any noise

A hole;
A crevice. A gap. An opening.
Can only be filled in every way, but none.
