If you were here

Sometimes when I close my eyes
And let the depth of twilight consume my consciousness
I can hear your voice
Smooth and comforting,
Like a satin blanket against a newborn’s skin
And sometimes when I am lonely
I imagine your arms entwining me in a loving bind
Until I have long forgotten who had damaged my dignity
Sometimes when I thirst for your words
I can hear the beautiful sounds of your body
Swirling around me like an apparition
Touching me softly, embracing and cradling my head
As I hope for the pain to disappear
Sometimes I swear I can feel your breath on my face
But I am not afraid
For I know that it is only you warming my flushed cheeks
Against the brutal winter
Sometimes I am almost certain that your lips against mine
But then I remember that this cannot be
For only a short time ago
You took your very life,
Never to come back to me
