I am a Music Lover

I am a music lover.
I was born the first moment headphones were placed
upon my blonde-haired head.
I have been many people in many places.
I am Mozart making his fingers dance among piano keys
to songs he wrote himself.
I am Marvin Gaye, but rather than falling in love with people
I fall in love with songs.
I am Ariana Grande, experimenting with her voice
no matter what the time or place is.
The name of those who were in my position ring like a hall of fame for humanity…
Beethoven, Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Michael Jackson, and even modern day artists like Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift.
I have wept with joy meeting my favorite singers at concerts,
danced in front of the mirror with my speakers on full blast,
belted my favorite Broadway tunes in the shower,
and took hours to conjure up my own songs on the piano.
When the sound of a song hit my ears, my feet uncontrollably tap the floor to the beat.
Throughout the course of a day I have been called upon to be an artist, director, actress, interior designer, fashion designer, teacher and more, but what I truly strive to become is a singer.
I am a paradox. I am happiest when it’s loudest.
I may not be a musician just yet, but I am a full-time listener
at concerts, musicals, and even sitting at my desk on my laptop.
I am most fortunate of those in the music industry.
A singer is forced to stress over their song writing abilities and performance skills
while all I have to do is sit, listen and enjoy.
A violinist has to keep their mind focused on their arm movement
while I can dance freely.
A DJ has to make sure everyone is entertained
while I am their beat critic.
I am a searcher, open-mindedly exploring genres, trying to find one
that is delicious to my ear drums.
But I have great allies: my phone, iTunes, my headphones and the skip button.
And who do I have to thank for this joyful experience
but the astonishing musicians, Pandora,
Spotify, and Firefly Music Festival.
And so I have a past of searching, a present of listening, and a future of creating music of my own.
I am a music lover, and music is what cures my soul.
