Cries to the Sky
The air had smelt like it always did at her house.
Clean, like flowers and fresh earth.
The steps were wet, but I didn’t care.
It would’ve been a normal day if it didn’t happen.
I wouldn’t have had to drive 4 hours if it didn’t happen.
It was five days before my birthday,
One of the days I always looked forward to.
That changed, as well as everything in my life.
My jeans were damp and my hands sweaty.
I was waiting for my mother to get to the house.
This house was where I spent weeks laughing and playing
Only to be replaced by a cry to the sky.
