Heartbeat
The stampede flashes by as I gather myself.
Two hearts. One mind Their pace quickens
As they turn the corner Breaths synchronize
She reaches for water I tell her to wait
The long straight road is deceiving
I expect her to say
she’s had enough
But she keeps
On running
Faster
And
wins

My love for running inspired this piece. Every summer, I do a two mile run down the shore with my entire family. My dad coaches me throughout the race and paces me throughout. In this poem, I wanted to capture that amazing feeling when you are giong so fast you can no longer feel your legs. After reading this poem, I hope that my peers will try going for a run. It is a lifelong sport that anyone can do, which is what makes it so magnificent.
