These Shoes I Walk In
Used to dream of
the sexy red
--maybe sleek black--
six-inch stilettos
promenading down
Hollywood streets
stopping people in
their tracks
hearing murmurs
depicting
“Ooos” and “Ahs”
everywhere I go
However
the maybe tied
or maybe-not-tied-sneakers
mirrors walking on a
field of marshmallows
Sneakers are the everyday sundays
Worry-free
white sneakers
show every
pile of dog s***,
accumulated dirt,
six months of chewed up bubblegum,
I’ve stepped in.
Nothing perfect
something comfy
And a little messy
Heck! Forget the red stilettos
Sneakers symbolize
an everyday partner
that hear everything I say
and walk every mile with me
without a heel breaking burden.

This piece shows how I have changed from wanting to fit in to settling with being content on who I actually am. Throughout high school its normal to want to fit in but that wasn't for me.
