still i rise
Inspired by Maya Angelou
You may hurt me with your words
You may hurt me with your hands,
But always remember,
I will not come back with fire in my eyes.
Does my smile confuse your mind?
Why have you stopped trying?
‘cause I walk away with a smile on my face
without a doubt of pain in the way?
They say don't mind it,
It will go away if you smile,
look at them as you walk away,
But always remember,
I will not come back with fire in my palms.
Do you want to see me hurt?
Scarred arms and blood dried?
Tears in my eyes, hands swollen,
scars on my thighs?
Does the way I appear offend you by surprise?
Do you get confused?
By the way I laugh,
When you say the awful words,
They don't scare me?
You may hit me with your words,
You may burn me with your eyes,
You may bring me down with your hatefulness,
But always remember, I will not come back with fire in my eyes.
I leave a path behind with tears and pain,
But i will not come back with fire in my eyes.
Into a new day searching for fear,
Without fire in my eyes,
I will come back and put a smile on my face,
But always remember,
I will not come back with fire in my palms, or pain in my eyes.
