Looking into the night sky
Beautiful and dark
Dotted with diamonds of light
There is immeasurable wonder.

This is our home.

Each speck
A massive inferno
Fueled by nuclear reactions
Is a reminder of
Just how big it is.
  How small we are.

     Tiny beings
    On a small rock
   Orbiting a medium star
  Floating in an average galaxy
Which is one of trillions
In a universe which may not be the only one.

Our problems fade away.
Focus on understanding the big picture
And only then will you understand
  How small
how precious
We are.

  We’ll never understand.
Not all of it.
Not completely.

There’s always more out there
Just waiting to be discovered.

It may be impossible to understand all of it
but I’ll be damned if I don’t try.
