I can’t write a poem.

Forget it.
My mind wanders too much.
I can’t stay focused.
Mac and cheese.
Man, I’m hungry.
What were we talking about?
Oh yeah, poetry.
I still can’t think of a line.
I wonder what’s for dinner.
Oh wait, time’s up?
You see, I’m too scattered to write.
You think this is a poem?
Ha, I didn’t even try.
I suppose I can write after all.
But seriously, can I have mac and cheese for dinner?

In my creative writing class, our first poetry prompt was titled "I can't write a poem" This would be about explaining the inability to write a poem, mentioning something random, and turning it into a poem. In the end, you realize you can in fact right a poem, just about anything. For someone with ADHD, this poem perfectly describes my thought process, trying to focus on one thing but getting distracted by another. And mac & cheese being my favorite food, I figured why not get distracted by that? I guess I was hungry when I wrote this poem. This poem didn't have a title until after I read it in class and my teacher told me "it was a cute and cheesy poem...literally!" I then decided to call it "Literally Cheesy"
