The First Dance
she tasted like cigarettes and altoids,
mixed with the summer heat.
i knew i loved her by the way she laughed,
auburn hair dancing down her back,
falling in perfect waves she stole my heart.
her lingering touch felt warm on the small of my back.
delicately she pulled me into her embrace
and began tracing memories with her fingertips.
we fell in love at a moment’s glance
as she guided me through her lover’s dance.
she let the whole world watch her,
let the earth move her body in simple twists and turns.
breathing slowly she took my hand,
leading me through my first romance.
