The Mile
As I finish my third lap and my legs are shot
I feel my lungs inflate and deflate with agonizing pain
As my sweat rolls into my eye and blurs my vision
I start to stride out my last two hundred meters
and my legs beg me to stop, but I can’t stop now
As I finish the race and my legs and lungs rejoice
I look at the clock and see I ran a four minute mile
