St. Peter's Basilica
The walls seemed to shake
Despite the grand structure
Of gold hinting otherwise
In front of her
People abandon chairs
Row after row
As they stand in unison
Like a commanding army
All singing gloriously
To a magnificent power
If she hadn’t known better
The little girl
With the Italian book of songs
Spread between her American thighs
Would have thought
This power
The power of song and worship
Was more powerful than the one
They worship up above
Whoever he may be

I wrote this poem during my spring break trip to Rome, Italy. My family and I dedicated the trip to sightseeing and discovering Rome's beautiful city. While we were sightseeing, we visited St. Peter's Basilica and I found myself overcome by the building's structure and worshippers. It was a beautiful experience and a wonderful writing opportunity.
