The fingers slip like velvet around my waist
give me an easy answer, but I ask again anyway.
Am I pretty?
You say yes, but how can you see me with your
eyes closed and your lips against my cheek?
Am I pretty?

Words dance around my brain like clumsy olympians,
ice skates scraping against my skull.
Am I pretty?

Am I pretty?
You used to think so.
