Online friends

We label them “online friends” because “friends” alone isn't enough.
Never meeting in person after growing fond of one another, I know it's tough.
They are there when no one else is and they're easy to confide in
Although others may look down on them, they're relationships I take pride in.
I've always been a stickler for conversation that I must admit
But talking isn't easy and there isn't a “how to make friends quickly” kit.
When I say “online friend” people often scoff
“That isn't even the same” but you're logic is way off
Since when is the term “friend” confined by these physical attributes
Their tangibility is a characteristic I view as insignificant and minute
