it’s like that age old basement I grew up on top of
secretly terrified of that short cornered room, your
eyes have it’s intent, and seek to deceive me, to slam your door
and lock me in your darkness

your slightest gesture comes too fast,
as though beads run through my throat and pull me underground
you sometimes open, and allow some dust to spill out
(i find comfort in that, and decide to stay in),
but i’m scared

or if you turn on the lights, and allow me to see through your filter
I forget what I know, and ignore what I don’t
as a bird in a cage sings, beautiful songs to distract from it’s woe

nothing which people try to persuade me of means truth
It’s as if you tainted my ears and cut off my lips
I sometimes forget i have a voice and ask for yours
choking on each and every hello and goodbye
which seem interchangeable at this point
(I wish i knew what it is about you that lets free and controls; for the longer we stand together, the faster I fall, losing my grip, weak as a rose)
nothing, not even my own two eyes, can tell you to go
