The Last Race

***The starter says racer ready, go when ready***
Am I ready to do this?
Will it be my last high school race?
Is my body going to hold up one more time?
What kind of run should I lay down?
Go for broke and try and win it all?
Or conservatively put one down for the team?
***I get to the bottom***
How was your run?
What’s the course like?
Can I take your bib?
All I can think about is “was that it”?
Am I done now?
How could four years have gone by so fast?
