The pain of abandonment never goes away. You might cover it up,

Push it deep into a corner of your mind,

But it’s never truly gone.
It lurks in your head,

Churns in the pit of your stomach,

And chills down to the bone.
A strong poker face is learned,

A smile is plastered,

And the hop in your step is forced.
Why is it that we seem to never get over it?

Why can’t we let go?

What is the point of feeling all the pain?
I tell myself “Trin it’ll go away”,

“Just keep doing you”

“Happiness is coming”

But is that ever really true?

I wonder if I’m going to learn strength

Like my mother,

My my sister,

My best friend.
Just have to keep pushing through.

I will make my own path,

And if I must walk it alone…

SO BE IT.
