and you feel the tires sink into the cracked asphalt
until the sound of his breath shakes you--
heavily
and you become blind
you dig your face into the polyester seat cushion
because his stare was where the real pain was
and every time he dug deeper into you
the seatbelt would rub you raw
and you were okay with it
because it could distract you--
