She took her paint brush
And doused everything in honey
So that the syrup dripped in dollops
From the peeling palm frawns
And white-washed gazebo
Glazing the yard in a golden slowness
Muffling the cicadas’ ticking and the woodpecker’s taps
Holding the present in an amber resin
For a moment
