The flickering lights mock me

My small hands unable to catch
The tiny stars
The only stars that one can reach if
They are clever enough

I grab greedily
At the fireworks show
Admission is free if you’re willing to be
Adventurous

The sparks fly away escaping
My small hands
The illuminated dance continues
Until the night grows too old

I stand still and watch
The flash
Still unable to catch a single
Flame of fire

Soon I grow tired
Of simply watching the dance
I must join in
Reaching out towards the night sky

It must have been dark inside
The little home I made with my hands
For the single sparkle that became mine

The light escaped from between my fingers
And it tickled
My small hands were too weak
To carry the flame alone
And so I let it go
