Our eyes, they've blossomed.
Blessed with a consciousness forever evolving.
Enlightened by past leaders of our nation,
words of radiant beams solidified generations.
Going places.
Minorities bound together hand and hand, don't worry dear oppressor you'll grow to love our competence because we're going places.
Flouted no longer,
diverse collaborations make our chances stronger.
Going places.
Energized by your constant bigotry.
Told we'd be more desirable if our skin was a little more light,
but we know that really means you like us but wish we were white.
Going places.
Exhilarated by boycotts, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, The Black Panthers and hymns like “Let Freedom Ring.”
Going Places.
Thomas Mundy, the first colored man to vote.
Gandhi, father of peace once took as a joke.
Lizzie Velásquez, advocate for people with disabilities and latinas alike.
Corky Gonzales, helped mexicans gain voting rights.
Yuri Kochiyama, stood firm with the anti-war movement.
Then we had Barack in the office making improvements.
Even now we’re out protesting, standing up for our beliefs.
The revolution’s not over, silenced no longer we speak.
Going places.

When I wrote this piece I was thinking of all the hardships many others before me have overcome, and the cutural divisons and struggles we still currently face. I wanted to write something that showed yes we're getting somewhere but we still have a long way to go.
