Yellow Elephant

Childhood memories and dreams
Flashbacks to giggles of sleepovers
As we stayed up
Way past our bedtimes.
Tears well up
Flashbacks of breathless nights
As arguing and yelling
Fills the calm motionless dark.
Comfort and warmth come
When I carry that yellow elephant.
It was my stability when
Nothing was going my way
Now - tattered and torn,
Like my heart and emotions,
Still gives the same satisfaction.
