The world outside my window
is surrounded with dread and fear.
I hear sorrow, children crying
and I see innocent people dying.
I hear the screams of terror in my dreams which makes me wake up crying realizing that is what my friends are experiencing at the Death Camps.
I see hunger, hate, love, and hope
I cry at the hate, cry at the sorrow, cry when Mom makes me calm down.
I pretend I’m happy, and optimistic. When really I want to cry until there are no more tears left to shed.
I pretend I’m perfect when in reality I'm a thirteen-year-old girl in hiding because I am Jewish.
