Betsy
The 01’ blue Volkswagen putted along the twisty road
while the penny-sized rain poured down.
The driver side window hadn’t been up since August
and it's now late October.
All the seasons have taken their toll on the old girl
but she continues to make her way
carrying infinite memories,
late nights, long drives, and small dents.
With the sunroof open and all the windows down
they took their last ride together.
Blues pulled in behind the rough sounding wagon
and smoke from the engine
visibly coughed in the beams
from the headlights.
Driving home was difficult with the thought of leaving
this friendly old companion behind forever.
Pulling into the driveway with the sound of metal
grinding against tar, the rust bucket comes to its final
stop.
