The Game of Poetry
Poetry is like a game
The poets are the designers
The readers are the players
Poetry is like a game of Scrabble
Trying to find the right words
Words that someone else hasn’t already said
Poetry is like a game of tag
Trying to touch the lives of people
But not all people want to accept
Poetry is like a game of chess
Making moves
Exposing what we did not see
Poetry is like a game of truth-or-dare
Telling the unbearable truth
Daring to do the impossible
Poetry is like a game of hide-and-seek
The poet hiding life in words
The reader seeking to live

I wanted to convey the internal conflict of poets in a relatable context. As a young writer, it is hard to condense all my thoughts into actual words, while simulataneously structuring it and thinking of words that no one else has said before.
