Homeless
Walking down the street, my thoughts wander:
Should I get a sandwich? Maybe a donut?
I finger the dollar bills in my pocket.
Sitting by the entrance of Subway
is a man.
Eyes cast down. Figure tense.
I look up at the drab gray sky,
and across at the opposite street as I walk past.
I finger the dollar bills in my pocket.
Suddenly, I'm not hungry anymore.
Two days later
I walk down a different street,
fingering the dollar bills in my pocket.
I buy a sandwich
and a coffee.
