Shooting Through Hoops
Once an innocent little girl
The sound of the classical music
And the pink tutus and tap shoes
Turn into the sound of the pounding basketballs
And the panting and perseverance dripping onto the wood floor
“All Asians are smart”
Always enrolled in the top classes
Teachers expected perfection
All I wanted to do is shoot hoops
Throughout the years it got rough
Elementary school, Middle school, High school
Get good grades to prepare for college
All I wanted to do is shoot hoops
One day everything changed
No longer afraid to make mistakes
The emptiness I longed to fill
Was suddenly became whole
I shot hoops
