Latchkey Child
A newborn child
Lays in her crib.
Thinking, "Maybe,
Just for a little while."
And just like her mother,
That time never comes.
Years do come though,
And they go.
(Just like her mom,
though.)
Those many missed memories
That her mother wasn't there for;
Graduations,
Birthdays,
Celebrations,
And holidays.
Years pass,
And that little baby grows,
Goes to college,
Gets a job,
Gets married,
And has a baby.
Placing that baby in the bassinet,
She kisses it goodbye,
And heads off to work.
And that newborn baby
Lays in her crib,
Destined to be a Latchkey Child.
