Eight lights on the menorah
Lasting shining bright
These were dark times you lived in
Worrying if you would make it through the night

Eight lights on the menorah
One for each child
The only remedy I know is hope
That none of the candles extinguish into smoke

Now there's nightmares in your head, Helen
I feel deep sorrow
But Helen, I'm rooting for you
To make it- at least until tomorrow.

The author's comments:

This poem is in memory of a Jewish child who died in the Holocaust.
